Many of the items (The majority, I'd say...) on the list were decidedly worldly, immoral, and most UN-Biblical. These I mentally labeled as fitting with the "Worldly Girl" stereotype.
Some of the items on the list were neutral, and what I consider completely a personal preference, i.e. if you love horses or if you just don't care for them too much.
Lastly, a very few items on the list squeezed into fitting with my idea of a Biblically feminine young woman.
Here is the original list:

What did you dislike the most on this list?
Please let me know.
Julia
Your pink and brown theme is too cute!
ReplyDeleteThe question I find most offensive is the one that refers to girls as chicks. I've always hated being called that (Thankfully it hasn't ever been said to my face before and I hope it will never be!).
"My closet is CHOCK FULL of clothes. (I don't wear half of themthough)” definitely hits home for e! I'm working on that.....
I would agree with you that a lot of the items on the list are worldly and therefore we don't agree with them.
It would be fun to make a "Christian Girly Quiz"!
By the way, I love roses too!
Hey Julia! Thanks for commenting on my blog! Your blog looks familiar...I think I've been on it before during one of my blog-browsing episodes. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with your assessment of that quiz....you have to like tight jeans to be a girly-girl??!
Thanks, Lillie and Jess!
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on doing a "Biblically Feminine" post next, to say some things I think that a mature feminine young lady would agree with! (sound good?)
Well...uh...(haha) The Chock Full closet applies to me too, Lillie! :) Also the 'more than ten pairs of shoes' and 'I own more than ten purses'. Clothes and accessories are my weakness! :)
That's exactly what I thought, Jess! I was astounded that liking tight jeans was supposedly a "Girly" trait! To me it seems just immodest and rude. Being a stumbling block to other young men in their walk with the Lord by causing them to lust after you is NOT girly, if you ask me. :)
Thanks for the comments!
Julia
I agree with you that it is extremely worldly. And the fact that they have the guts to say that you have to like those things in order to be girly really ticks me off. The fact is that every single person is different and everyone is not going to like the same things! That list is just in one persons opinion of what they think a girl should like and do in order to be considered more feminine then those of us who do not do everything on that list. We, as Christians should look to God, as you stated. In Titus 2 it tells us what young men and women should act like and be. You have raised a stirring point, Julia.
ReplyDeletejoelle
I certainly have raised a stirring point! :) I appreciate your comment, Joelle! I thought also that the list really was quite opinionated as to what a girl was like, and I don't care for it very much!!
ReplyDeleteOh, and Lillie, I meant to remark tht I also hate being called a 'chick'!! I find it immensely degrading.
Keep those comments coming, ladies, I'll use material from them for my next post on Biblical Femininity.
Julia
Wow! Some of those questions shocked me, but once I thought about them, a few people I know popped in my head. I like magazines and I like little kids and I actually have cried in a movie, but those were some of the only answers I wasn't super surprised by. I am sure many girls in today's society would have checked off a lot of them. :) Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Laney
Yeah, some of those are crazy! I can understand some of them, because some of them aren't that bad. But tight jeans? And all that other junk? Come ON. But some of them show girly aspects :). Although I definitely agree with you Julia, those are 'worldly' questions. But we do need a Christian Girly Quiz. :)
ReplyDeleteMadison
HI Julia,
ReplyDeletemost of the things on that list I don't agree with! but some of the things I do. I love little kids and I have a lot of clothes and a lot of stuff for my hair.
could you please explain to me what tight jeans are? (I'm still a Dutchie) I know jeans but what is tight. could anyone explain that to me? I think a lot of girls have a lot of things from that list, definitely here in the Netherlands. And I think it's shocking that you have to be on a diet to be a girly?!!!! I think God thinks a lot different!!!! By the way I sent you a email
Ciska
Julia~
ReplyDeleteHere's my idea of a Godly Woman.
She is silent in the church (1 Cor. 14:34 & 1 Tim. 2:11)
She is modest in her dress and manner (1 Tim. 2:9)
Of course there is much more in Proverbs 31.
Thanks for commenting on my blog so often!
Oh, goodness, Julia! How worldly and superficial a thing it must be to be "girly." :)
ReplyDeleteYou know, I think the reason a lot of people have a problem with biblical femininity is because the world has such a warped view of what femininity really is!
Lillie's assessment was beautiful! The only things I would add would be that this woman also exemplified the fruit of the spirit, rather than the deeds of the flesh (Galatians 5, I believe :)
Great post.
Hi Julia,
ReplyDeleteI guess that list should be a shock, but sadly it really isn't. What is really sad is that this ideology has even penetrated the "church". I know many girls in churches that have that mind-set. Like it is cute to be "high maintenance"! Looking forward to your post on "Biblical Femininity"! McKenzie
You weren't kidding...this is interesting. :o)
ReplyDeleteThe picture of the flowers Sarah took at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. I'm not sure what kind they are. They are pretty, though. I really liked the multicolored flowers we saw...maybe I'll post a pic of that sometime.
See you Friday, right? :o)
Love,
Joanna
Hmmm... this is disheartening on two accounts.
ReplyDeleteOne, that it comes as no shock to me that this is how ungodly girls view what's important, and also, that most of the girls in my church could ace this test.
I see quizzes like this often on Shoutlife, (a Christian version of Facebook)and though I never participate in spreading them around, reading them always amazes me at how confused our generation really is.
So let's shine and show the world what a true young lady is!
In Christ,
Macy
Hi Everyone,
ReplyDeleteI will be posting soon about the Biblically Feminine characteristics. I'm still working on it so it might be a while before I post it. (Hopefully it will be worth the wait!) :)
Blessings,
Julia
Hey Julia!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it sad how the average teenage girl today is defined by meaningless and ungodly stuff? Not all of it was ungodly or anything....but some of it was...it's so hard to not be consumed by these things...even as a Christian teen girl. I'm VERY girly...and I find myself being tempted A LOT to be consumed by romance and/or fashion.
Hey come check out my blog...I just posted about the Rebelution "Do Hard Things" conference that took place last Sat. I went with my family...and it was awesome!!
Brianna
