I had a great trip down to FL with my dad. We listened to music on the way down, cruising along in the truck. I edited my book all the way down and all the way back, with my little laptop sitting in my lap. (I reached page 190!)
Here is my trip, in photos:
An orchid bloom on the living room coffee table in my grandma's house. The cot where I slept was right next to this pretty blossom.
A hibiscus flower in the front yard.
Sunny palm trees...
Happy little milkweeds...
The afghan.
I crocheted this afghan for my cousin Katie for her wedding present. I gave it to her early so that she could snuggle up with it this winter and get some use out of it... the wedding is in March and she won't need a warm blanket very much by then, in Florida.
It features 3-D flowers, a ruffled border, and a color scheme of lavender, warm grape, chocolate brown, peanut-butter brown, creamy ivory, and a light khaki.
Katie and her afghan... She liked it. (YES!) Whew! :) My shades. There's a funny story behind these cool sunglasses.
I forgot to pack any.
And on the trip down, I squinted the entire day, resulting in a wrinkle between my eyes! Aaaagh! I am way too young for wrinkles.
So the next morning of the trip we took a little jaunt to Wal-Mart and I picked these up. They worked really well on the way back from Florida, and I am happy to say that the wrinkle in my face is no more. At least until I turn 90 or so. ;)
I decided to model them for you. ;)
And I am thrilled to say that my grandma finally has a computer. We helped her pick it out. It's a smart little HP laptop, to be precise. I even called to set up her internet and talked with a live Verizon representative. (That was rather nerve-wracking. The representative was a sweet lady but I have a mild phobia of calling complete strangers on the phone...) :)
Today Daddy and I went down to an empty school parking lot and practiced parallel parking. Again and again and again... etc. I think I finally have the hang of it! Before we headed home I parallel-parked five times in a row in a fashion that would have passed the test. I just hope I can do it for the driver's license test!
The test is Tuesday, the 10th, if you wouldn't mind praying for my success. (Please do!) :D
Have a lovely week!
I love your shades. You look so good in them. :) I'm glad you had a good time. :) Love you girl!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're trip went well and that practicing parallel parking was a success! I'll be praying for you on Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteKatelyn S.
Awwww!! Thank you, Rose! How sweet of you. :D Love you too!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had such a fun trip! That afghan is BEAUTIFUL! It's one of the best ones I've ever seen! Amazing job!
ReplyDeleteIn Jesus,
Allison
Neat sunglasses! I like 'em.
ReplyDeleteHow do you set up the internet? Just call? That sounds kinda scary but getting a computer sure is exciting!
Love that afghan. Make one for me? :)
Break a leg on that test Tuesday!
Well, not literally, but you know what I mean. :D I'll be praying!
Great job on the afghan, Julia! Where did you get the patterns for the squares? How did you do the ruffle?
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good time in FL.
Katherine
Katelyn,
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, the parallel parking seems to be going OK so far! :)
Allison,
Aw, thank you!! I am so glad Katie liked it, a lot of effort went into that afghan! :)
Abby,
I like 'em too. :D
Yep, we called Verizon, and went through a long ordeal of setting it up with a bundle deal for TV, internet, and phone. They still have to install a wireless router, so Grandma doesn't have internet yet.
I'll make you an afghan, LOL, but only if you're willing to shell out about $150 plus shipping... that's what it's worth considering materials and time. :D
Thank you! I appreciate your prayers.
Katherine,
Thank you!!! The squares are all from the book "200 Crochet Blocks for Blankets, Throws, and Afghans" by Jan Eaton. The ruffle pattern was from a book I recently bought from Amazon, "Around the Corner, Borders & Edgings" (I think that was the title) by Edie Eckman. :) Great books!! :) I higly recommend the first one.
Blessings!
Julia
Yeah! You're back!!! *juade!* ;) (that' "jumping up and down excitedly"). :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad your cousin loved her afghan..smart idea giving it to her early. It turned out beautifully! :D You're so talented!
Love the sunglasses...your so classy! :D
Hurray for you and the parrelel parking!! Don't worry about tomorrow, you're going to be GREAT!!! :D {{{{{{{{{*HUGS*}}}}}}}} I'll still be praying for you though...no worries. ;) *hearts* *hearts* *hearts* :D
All your pictures were lovely! Wow, *sigh* I love the flowers.. Guess what though, the weather has been so warm here that we've already seen new spring flower buds popping up! :O Whoa! *squeals* :D
Aww, your grandma looks sweet. :) I love grandma's! Aren't they the best! That's great that you could get the laptop all set up for her while y'all were there. :)
Love you bunches!
~Rachel~
Julia,
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful afghan! You and Katherine would have fun crocheting together if we only lived closer. Sigh. Hope all goes well for your test.
Cindy Cole
Oh, Julia, the afghan took my breath away! It is so beautiful! You did such an amazing job.

Your friend,

Aw! I'm so glad you had a good time. I love that afghan too, but it *does* look like a lot of work. :D It appears you and I share the same phobia of phones. ;) Hope your test goes well today!
ReplyDeleteThe afghan is LOVELY.
ReplyDeleteI completely understand your phobia of calling strangers on the phone - I have the same phobia!
Trusting His Grace,
Allison
