It's not about me... but thanks.

What do you do when people say you're awesome?
When people compliment you, tell you you're talented, smart, beautiful, creative, and amazing... how does one react?

The wrong way to respond is to let your pride inflate like a hot-air balloon and soar up through the heavens until you think you're the greatest thing since sliced bread. Which I *cough* have done before.
(incidentally, what IS so great about sliced bread anyway?)
Another wrong way to respond is to blush, duck around the corner, hide in the ladies' room, and insist you don't deserve a single compliment.

One of the right ways to respond (not THE right way, just A right way) is to smile and quietly say
"Thank you."
I have my bad days. I have my good days. On my bad days, I do not deserve to be called beautiful or amazing... 'cause I'm not. On my good days, I work hard, I accomplish a lot, okay, I deserve a little pat on the back. Not fawning admiration, but a small "thanks". Which I get x100 from my loving family. :) They're so good about saying "thank you".
So. About blog awards.

I received some lately from a very dear (boy, those words seem so insipid. What an understatement) wonderful, sweet friend ... Rachelle.
I also got one from Lizzie, a past winner of a jewelry giveaway I did! :)
And Charity also awarded me! I enjoy reading her book reviews.

Thank you, girls. I appreciate the awards.
From Lizzie:
(According to Lizzie, "Liebster" means 'Dearest' in German)

RULES:
• Choose five up and coming blogs with less than 200 followers to award. Make sure and notify them by comment or e-mail that you did so.
• Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them. If you’re not already a follower of their blog, that might be a great way to show appreciation for the award. :)
• Post the award on your blog, and be sure to link back to the 5 blogs you awarded, so that others can visit them.

Fun part! Awarding others! Surely, it is more blessed to give than to receive...

1. Rachelle! Who inspires me to dare and dream and discover.
2. Rachel! Who is such a sweet and sisterly influence in my life.
(less than 200 followers? oh well....)
3. Sarah! Who heads the MOHL group that has blessed me in countless ways. A good friend.
4. Katelyn! A faithful commenter! (a highly desirable quality in a blog reader)
5. Miss Dashwood! A frequent poster of all things Period Drama. I love her blog. :)

I hereby award you all the "Liebster" blog award.

 From Rachelle:
Oh, my, goodness. This is the cutest blog award I have ever seen. I got it a few years ago, but I'll happily accept it again!
I award:
and Rose H.
For being "Kreativ" and "Kute"! :)
Strawberries! *snicker* Inside joke. Among the MOHL gals.
Whom I hereby award! MOHL gals, the strawberry award is yours. :D You know who you are.
I really like this one... It's neat!
I award:
For being versatile! :)
From Charity:
I'm an inspiration! Wow. No pressure, right? Right....
I award:
For their inspiration. :)

Charity also awarded me the Irrisistibly Sweet blog award, and a few others I'd already received. :)

And I think with some of these awards you are supposed to post 7 random things about yourself.

*Randomocity*

1. I am not afraid of bugs. I squish them myself. Unless a handy brother happens to be nearby, in which case I calmly and nicely ask them to dispose of it.
2. Today I designed the remaining bits and pieces of the new CD cases for our ebooks on how to make jewelry and how to make duct tape weapons. It was a huge job, but everything came out splendidly! Yay! :)
3. I rarely pay more than $2 for a piece of clothing. I'm a dedicated thrift-shopper.
4. I love talking to people, but in general I hate using the telephone. Go figure!
5. I am going to buy myself a big heart-shaped box full of chocolates this year, because I do not have a 'valentine'.
6. I'm a really good cook. But I plan to get better. :)
7. I am on page 235 out of 378, editing my novel, Lissie.

I hope you enjoyed this post! :) Have a wonderful Sunday!

I am thankful for ... Encouragement! :)

There are some days when I stare out the window at a dripping, dreary scene of melancholy woods and wonder ... "Does anybody really care?"

Once in a while I wonder if anybody enjoys this blog but me. But then something happens that reminds me...

I have friends! I have followers who care. I have people who have been blessed by what I typed with my ten little fingers and then clicked "publish" for with my mouse!

And that is such a huge encouragement. It gives me the energy and the inspiration to keep on blogging.

And today... I have been awarded! By my oh-so-sweet and oh-so-nice fellow friend, author, and blogger... Rachelle!
Ahhhh! This award is so sweet! What a compliment...

I just wuv this little bumblybee...

The Official Blog Award Rules:
the same for both awards.

1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you the award.
(Thank you, Rachelle! You have touched my heart today.)

2. Share 7 things about yourself.

3. Give the award to 15 other bloggers.
(ugh. That's a lot. Plus Rachelle already awarded many of my sweet friends... but I'll do it!)

So, for 7 things about Julia:

1. I cannot go anywhere  now without somebody commenting on my hair, which is so long it falls to the top of my thighs.

2. I am currently in love with the Breyers' Blasts Oreo Mint ice cream.

3. I can hardly believe that Thanksgiving is NEXT WEEK! Oh my goodness! Where has this year gone? It seems like life gets faster as I get older. (I'm 20 going on 21, if you must know).

4. When I swapped out my winter clothes for my summer clothes, I organized them by color, and now my walk-incloset looks like a big rainbow. ;)

5. I love mechanical pencils.

6. I wear Bath and Body Works fragrance mist almost every day, whether I'm going somewhere or not. ;)

7. I prefer warm weather to below freezing weather. 75 degrees is my favorite temperature... and when it's only 29 outside, you will find me in about 7 layers of clothing huddled in front of the woodburning stove in several blankets with a mug of steaming hot chocolate. ;)

That was fun! Now, for the bloggers I am going to award.... (I hereby jointly award all the MOHL girls along with Rachelle, by the way!! She got to it first...) :D

5. Jennifer from Dear Lillie (love this blog and shop, so creative!)
11. Vicki
12. Disney from Ruffles & Stuff (best craft-y ideas ever!)

So, today I am thankful for Encouragement!
Don't forget to check out the 30 Days of Thankfulness challenge

This post took me a ridiculously long time to put together! Whew! :D
Have a beautiful day!

The late-updating, vacuum-fighting, re-shrinking me

Okaaaay, so after that somewhat (all right, rather... very...) unusual post title, I have an even more interesting post! It could be a little mixed-up, but this is the real Julia, at 10:00 pm with all the wonderful sugar from a vanilla waffle ice cream cone topped with strawberry jam racing through her system. *grins*

Yes, you wanted to see pictures of the homeschool convention. No, they will not be appearing in this post. I'm sorry.  I did not download them yet - they're on my mom's camera and I am unfamiliar with the shiny silver little device. I will share them with you when they are downloaded. But I do have the news!  I sold half my jewelry inventory at the booth, and my brothers sold all but 4 spears and 2 throwing axes. It was wonderful and we are definitely going back next year! :D

Oh, and ehrm... the hotel pool was about 2 feet wide and 6 feet long. I kid you not. Very unimpressive.
The rest of the hotel was really cool! ...But they should have skipped the pool.

And now, we interrupt our regularly scheduled blogposting to bring you... The Beautiful Blogger Award!

Thank you Joanna!! I'm touched. What a sweet thing for you to do! :D

- Thank the person who nominated you and link to their blog.

- Copy the award and paste it to your blog.

- Tell us seven interesting facts about yourself.

- Pass this award on to 15 fantastic bloggers you have discovered.

- Contact your nominations and let them know they’ve won.

1. Today, I started crocheting a RUG! Oh so cute. I must post pictures soon.

2. Tomorrow, we are going strawberry picking - oh joy! I love strawberries, especially freshly-picked!

3. Next week, we are having a Yard Sale at our house and wow did we ever have too much stuff squirreled away that we are (hopefully) getting rid of.

4. Yesterday I had a battle royale with the vacuum cleaner and whipped it into submission, emerging victorious with a spotlessly clean bedroom carpet. This really deserves its own blog post, but I'm squeezing it in here... You see, the vacuum broke a while ago, and so I had to use the 'pet brush' tool on the hose to clean my whole floor. This means I was down on my hands and knees, pushing this ridiculously small tube (attached to the machine with a stretchy hose) across the floor. I was an easy mark for the base, which kept getting tugged when I extended the stretchy hose, and falling over on top of me! Ouch! *grrr.*

5.Remember my "Incredible shrinking Julia" post? Well... I sort of 'un-shrunk', so now I'm re-shrinking! Yay! Already lost 3 pounds. :D

6. Mama made chocolate chip cookies yesterday, and we bought waffle cones to make ice cream cones at the store today, so 'shrinking' has been very difficult for me lately! (Tell me I don't need to be eating ice cream.)

7. The other day, I actually got a blister from playing a toy accordion. (See? I told you this blog post was going to be weird!) Apparently I was concentrating so hard on trying to pick out the melody of 'Amazing Grace' that I didn't realize I was getting a blister from the strap, which was too small. *facepalm*

And now, to award somone else.

Rachel. My sweet blogging friend! Rachel's latest post on our devotional blog, Meditations of His love, was exactly what I needed to hear at that moment, and I was in awe of the way God used her to speak to me. My dear, I am awarding you with this award for being the beautifully clear example of God's love that has so inspired me. God bless you!

I hope the rest of you will not mind that I didn't do the required 15 awardees. I wanted to do something special for Rachel. :)

Time for me to be signing off. Have a lovely weekend, ya'll!

A deluge of awards

So, I have quite a lot of awards here to pass on and without further ado:

The TRUE Princess award
I love this award - it's so cute! :) I was awarded this darling award by Abby from Tales of a Left Brain. Thank you Abby! :)

I am awarding it to: Lindsay, Rachel, Jessica, and Mckenzie.

Abby also awarded me the "Against the Flow" award, which I have also gotten in the past but decided to give out again to:
Mariah, Rachel and Jessica , Arianna, and Kierstyn.

I was awarded the "Friend In Christ" award by Allison, AND Lindsay, (Thanks girls!) and I award it to all my followers who believe in Jesus Christ.

The Over The Top Award
I was awarded this one by Allison (thank you Allison!) and thought it very unique. This one I am only awarding to a blog I really think is 'over the top' in excellence.
Jasmine at Joyfully Home. To see what I mean, go and visit! :)

I was awarded this award by so many girls that I lost track. I know that sounds really pitiful but seriously, I had about 5 or 6 (or was it 7?) people comment and say they'd awarded me with this! Aah! :)

I award this award to anybody who wants it! :D (I know, that's lazy of me... sorry!)

So, Here are the 7 "Unknown things" about myself that I'm supposed to post to accept this award:

1. I just started another crocheted afghan in greens and blues with lots of "bobbles"- a special crochet stitch. Pictures will be forthcoming. :D

2. To hear me sneeze is about as rare an experience as spotting some elusive and endagered kind of wildlife... I sneeze so quietly that it's seldom I get a "Bless you!" or "Gezondheit" because nobody notices that I've sneezed! ;) When my oldest brother Mark does catch me sneezing, he exclaims "Wow! I heard that one!!" :D ....sorry, that was kind of random... moving on:

3. ...this is harder than it looks. Hmm... Ah. Here's an interesting fact for you. Whenever somebody in our house pops a batch of popcorn for themselves, they invariably get mooched upon by the other members of the family who didn't make themselves any popcorn. I have a natural remedy though... nobody likes snitching my popcorn because I sprinkle it with garlic powder and parmesan cheese. I think it's delicious, but that opinion is not shared by anyone else! So my popcorn goes untouched by anyone but me.

4 Someday I would love to have a purple and yellow kitchen, aqua and brown master bedroom, rainbow-polka-dot-painted laundry room, red-and-white bathroom (or aqua-and-white) with matching beta fish in goldfish bowls, and a living room in warm brown tones with bright accent colors. I will definitely have a unique house. :)

5 Daddy and the boys just put in our fireplace insert! It only burns a small quantity of wood per hour, and it constantly blows out a stream of hot air into the living room, making our house very warm and toasty! :) This I find very exciting.

6 Yesterday I ripped my right middle fingernail nearly in half (it got bent completely backwards) while reaching for something under my bed too quickly! Owwww! It hurts but is protected by a band-aid. I hate messing up my nails like that. It almost never happens, thankfully!

7 Whew! Last one! I am very close to getting my driver's license. Any tips for taking the test from those of you who've gotten yours? :)

Three Exhilarating Things

Exhilaration
NOUN: The state of being enlivened, cheerful or exhilarated.

That's me at the moment! I have so much to be excited about that I'm thrilled right down to my fingertips.

Reasons for this feeling of euphoria?

1. Emily Joy helped me fix my background! Yay! My little blog looks so purty now, I could just burst with happiness! :) A great big thank you and hug to Emily for helping me out!

2. This Friday, Jasmine Baucham is hosting a giveaway on her blog of a custom designed blog header AND a fine glass necklace and earring set that I created ! Woohoo! This is such a blessing for me as it will help promote my Etsy shops, and hopefully send some customers my way! :) Thank you Jasmine. You are such a sweetheart!

3. I have no less than FIVE blog awards to post about and pass on to some of my dear bloggy friends. Whew! Ya'll are overwhelming me with your awards here! :D I love it but it's a lot of work. :)

Soooo... I will be kept hopping in the days between now and Friday listing things on my Etsy shops for people to look at and hopefully purchase. :)

Blog awards will be forthcoming soon, just not right now. :P

Awards, awards...and a Tag!

I was awarded this taggy-award by Laney and Maggie! Thanks girls!

Rules:

1. Do a post about the person who awarded you, and their blog.

2. Give the award to 5 of your favorite blogs, give a reason, (i.e, why you awarded them) and leave them a comment letting them know they've been awarded.

3. Answer the 10 random questions.

4. Have Fun!

So, as for the sweet young ladies who awarded me...

Laney has a delightful, creative, lovely blog and I've known her for a long time through blogging because I found her pretty early on in my blogging journey... very shortly after I started this blog. :) She is very intelligent and her skills with the computer and graphic design are phenomenal! :D Go check her out, you'll love her blog! :)

Maggie is a new friend in my 'blogosphere', and I look forward to getting to know her better! :) She has a very pretty pink blog and writes interesting and entertaining posts. :)

I am awarding:

Breezy ... Breezy is an artist among artists. Her God-given skills and talent astound me... she draws and paints unbelievably wonderful drawings and paintings. The reason I love her blog so much is because I love how sweet and whimsical and wonderful Breezy is. :)

Bethany... Bethany is just about to become a big sister all over again, and the new little one (we just found out) is a little girl! I am awarding her with a big CONGRATULATIONS to her and her whole family. :)

Amanda... This lady is so creative it's scary! She knows everything there is to know about blog and web design and I love her blog. :)

Ella... Ella has a wonderful blog, and I love reading what she posts... She is great about sharing her 'real self' online and that self is so special. :) Thank you for your writing, Ella! :)

Kierstyn... Kierstyn is a friend of mine that I have known literally my whole life... we grew up together, then were seperated for years because I moved to Georgia... She now lives in Maine with her new husband, and her blog chronicles some of their adventures of starting a life together.

As for the random questions:

1.Have you ever ridden an elephant?
No! Wouldn't that be fun though? :)

2.Have you ever eaten squid?

Yes, surprisingly... after all, I used to live in Florida... I had mine fried, so it tasted like french fries to me.

3.What is something crazy you have done with your best friend?
Actually, my long-time *best* friend (who still lives in Florida) is a very rational, sensible, wonderful person. (and a very good influence on me!) :) At the moment I can't really recall anything crazy that I've done with her... I've done some crazy things with lots of close friends though. :) Yesterday I was actually helping somebody write a song about fuzzy socks. :D

4.Have you ever held an alligator?

Yes- a great big huge one! On my lap! ......... At my little brother's birthday party. And it had it's jaws taped shut. So I'm not Miss Indiana Jones or Madam Crocodile Hunter by any means. :)

5.Have you ever let a snake slither through your fingers?
Probably. (These are odd questions.) I used to play outside every day and I can remember finding baby ring snakes sometimes... they were the cutest, most harmless things you can imagine... tiny and un-poisonous.

6.What is your first and foremost dream in life? I want to live a life that glorifies my Lord and Savior, and be a shining light for him in a darkened world. I believe that my calling in life is to be a stay-at-home wife and mother, which is why I am focusing on learning homemaking skills instead of going to college.

7. What is your dream vacation?
Oh, I don't know... pick a dreamy, remote, astoundingly beautiful location and give me a gorgeous amazing camera to photograph it with and I'll be happy. :)

8. What is the funniest movie you have ever seen?
*thinks for about five minutes before finally deciding* I would have to say ... Oh....wait.... uhh... Wow. Tough call. *still thinking* Umm.... I'll get back to you on that one. ;P

9. What is your favorite song?

Right now, my favorites are some of the songs at the beginning of my iPod list... Lost Get Found, by Britt Nicole, an old favorite On the Other Side of the Radio by Chris Rice, Mighty to Save by Laura Story, and several others. I also really like the song I've heard playing on the radio called "Until the Whole World Hears" by Casting Crowns... that one is very good.

10. If you could change the world in one way, what would you do?

I would want everyone to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that he died on the cross for our sins ....so that when they died, they would be in heaven with our wonderful God instead of in eternal torment. However, since I don't have that power- everyone has free choice.

I have also been awarded this award by Ruth

Thank you Ruth!

To accept this award, recipients should do the following things:
1) Save the image and upload it to display in your sidebar
2) Present the award to five people
3) Publish a post presenting the award which names your 5 recipients and tells what you like about each of their blogs/websites.

I award the same girls to whom I awarded the other award, and also:

Lindsay from Content in Christ - I so enjoy reading Lindsay's blog posts... I always learn something and her love for the Lord is evident in every sentence she writes. Lindsay is an inspiration! Please go visit her blog... you will love it too! :)

Have a very blessed week!

Post-a-Day #17 - ten honest things

Thanks to Rachel for for the Honest Scrap award! :D I was awarded by her after I saw that Jasmine awarded this to whoever wanted to participate .... and I did.... so ..... :D I had started writing it already... but I'm somewhat relieved, as Rachel made it 'official!' :D

Here are the rules for the "Honest Scrap" Award:
  1. Say thanks and give a link to the presenter of the award ~ (Thank you, Jasmine and Rachel!)
  2. Share "ten honest things" about yourself.
  3. Present this award to 7 others whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged me.

  4. Tell those 7 people that they've been awarded the "Honest Scrap" and inform them of these guidelines in receiving

OK- for my ten honest things I'm also going to post 'Fashion-honest' things. (It just looked like so much fun! Otherwise I wouldn't be such a copycat). :)

  1. Sometimes I have been caught being "too dressy". :) I love jewelry and cute shoes, and occasionally I wear too much of both at places like *cough* home-church...

  2. My hair is so long that I can sit on it easily (or without meaning to - ouch!) and most of the time I just contain it in a boring ponytail to get it out of my way. (any tips on very long hair-styles?)

  3. My fashion sense has a mind of its own sometimes... (lol)

  4. I ask my brothers for their opinions often, which apparently drives them nuts, I have no idea why... Somehow they don't find choosing between a pink purse or a brown purse as fun as I do! :D

  5. Patterned prints, Polka-dots, and Paisley - Oh My! :D I love them all.

  6. I have WAY too many shoes. Seriously.

  7. I also have way too much jewelry - It's a side effect of being a jewelry designer... you make some for every outfit! :)
  8. If something is 'in' at the moment but doesn't look right on me - or it grates against my convictions of modesty - I won't wear it.
  9. I've gotten my mom to wear dangly earrings... woohoo! She looks great in them too. :) Love you Mommy!
  10. I wear pants or capris more than I wear skirts. :( Mostly because my skirts are all dressy - if anyone has reccomendations on someplace to get 'everyday' skirts, please drop me a note!
I award whomever would like to participate! I agree with Jasmine that 7 is just too few. :D

Against The Flow - and What's On Julia's Desktop!

I have been awarded by Marissa and Madison! Thank you SO much, girls! :)
"This award goes to all of the people who are living a life for God and
going against the flow of what the world might tell them to do."

This award really meant a lot to me, because I so desire to be living for the Lord and going about my life the way he wants me to, not the way the world dictates us to.
Some bloggers I consider as fellow "Against The Flow" people are (in no certain order)

And most especially my dear mother, Gloria, who has raised me to care about what God thinks more than what the world around me thinks. Not an easy task, for sure!
These bloggers are thus awarded. :)
Unfortunately, while writing this post, I ran out of time! So if you are seeing this and your name is up there and you haven't gotten a comment from me, rest assured, I will comment as soon as possible letting you know! :D

And, for the next part of the post... Behold, the picture currently on our computer desktop!
I love this! I made it today on Scrapblog.com and thought it was just TOO CUTE! :D I love pink, I love flowers, I love flourishes, and I love to laugh. :) So this is perfect. :D It will definitely be on there for a while. :D (usually I change the computer desktop picture nearly every week!)

♥Love & Hugs!

Currently I feel: Grateful and Content.

Mom, I'm Proud Of You!

Announcing....

The start of a brand new blog, Gloria in Excelsis Deo, run by my own mother, Gloria! :) I love her title. It's so much more unique than "Julia's Journal". :P

Also...
I have been awarded by Miss Lauren Ann with this lovely award:

~THE LEMONADE AWARD~

The concept behind this award is that the blog creators have shown an uncanny knack for silver linings and making the best of bad situations (i.e., lemonade from lemons).
Rule: Name ten blogs that reflect this silver linings philosophy.
All righty then, I'm awarding....
  1. My Mom, Gloria
  2. Joanna
  3. Madison
  4. Laney
  5. Mckenzie
  6. Jasmine
  7. Kaysie
  8. Ella
  9. Joelle
  10. The Meiners

(This was in no particular order) All of these blogs are great, and I had a lot more that could have been awarded.

Blessings!

Julia

Currently I'm feeling: Happy, and Excited!
